The Fallen Angel
I dropped my bag on the floor after entering my room and leaped for my bed, taking the pillow in my hand and pressing my face to it. I let out a scream which was muffled by the pillow. “I hate my life, I hate my life, I hate my life.” I kept repeating it in my mind, after all who likes to be a teenager? The trauma, the loneliness, the cliques, the heartbreaks, being a teenager is the absolute worst thing a human being has to experience. Alright I am exaggerating but it’s still true. I turned myself in my bed and I faced my wall. I let out a sigh. My wall was completely covered with characters of all my favourite fantasy novels and their film adaptation. Why can’t that be my life? Why can’t I be a super strong woman with supernatural powers? Why can’t I fight monsters just like how the Winchsters do in the movie “Teen Wolf”?
I loved fantasies and fairy tales. I always believed there was some truth to all these stories; after all, all these folklores had to originate from somewhere. They can’t be just stories, because they were too real, too specific. No one can have this good of an imagination…
Just as I was about to start daydreaming about a specific Winchester, I was interrupted by a very weird noise. I opened my eyes and yelled out for mom, but I knew both of my parents weren’t home. Thinking it was just a figment of my imagination, I started getting up from my bed when I heard it again. This time it was a little louder. My heart picked up speed. I started searching for the place from where the noise was coming when it gathered up volume. I bent down on my knees and reluctantly looked under my bed. There was an empty shoe box there. This was very weird because I hadn’t bought any new shoes recently. I reached out for it when I realised the noise was coming from inside it. I placed the shoe box on my lap and the noise just got louder and louder. I slowly start opening the box with my heart racing. As soon as I open the box a blinding light surrounds the room and the noise becomes almost unbearable. At this point it was almost impossible to differentiate between the noise and my deafening screams. The light consumed everything in sight and involuntarily making me shut my eyes tight.
Suddenly it went silent, with only my screams audible. After two minutes, which felt like forever, I opened my eyes. But this only led me to screaming louder because of what I saw in front of me. I was no longer in my room. I was in the middle of a large field and I was not alone. A woman was looking down at me, very confused. She must be in her late 20s.
“Stop screaming and get up,” she said.
“What?!” I yelled out.
She repeated, “For the love of God, stop screaming and get up, I was waiting for you. We have to hurry, we don’t have time.”
“WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?” I screeched. To say I was freaking out would be the understatement of the century. I don’t know who this woman was, what she wanted for me, where was I? So many questions were going through my head. Sure, I had imagined scenarios like these over a thousand times in my head. But this was all real. This was really happening. And for someone who had been dreaming about this very moment, her very own supernatural adventure, I was quite scared and terrified to say the least. Who the hell was this woman, where on earth was I? Was I even on earth to begin with?
I searched my surroundings looking for answers or a way out, anything. When I saw the shoe box I found in my room. I picked it up, only to find it being empty. My panic was reaching a whole new level. The lady was observing me with confusion all over her face.
“Do you...do you not know who you are?” she started but after looking at my panic stricken face she got her answer.
“Princess, I am Lady Elizabeth, your companion for this quest. We have to get going now, I’ll explain everything on the way, come”
She picked me and we started walking down a dirt-filled road.
“Princess?” I murmured, mostly to myself but Lady Elizabeth heard me.
“Yes princess, you are the Princess Anna of Moondoor and-” “Excuse me, I think you are mistaken, I am not a princess, I was in my room right now and I touched this thing, saw this light coming through and i don’t know what happened”
“That was the portal princess, when we were at Lake LaPush, you vanished out of thin air. I thought I lost you forever but now I am thinking you just went through the portal and entered an alternate reality. Oh Anna I was so worried. Thank heavens, you are okay”
“Hold up, what? Portal, alternate reality? You know you are not making any sense to me right? And LaPush, why does that sound familiar to me?”
“I am guessing entering the portal must have had a very severe effect on your memory. Princess listen to me, you have to trust me, do you understand? We are very close to completing the quest. You have to trust me, Anna.”
And for some very weird reason, I did. I trusted Elizabeth. I was at a loss for words so I nodded and we walked through the dirt road.
Lady Elizabeth started explaining to me who I was. My father died of old age and had left the kingdom of Moondoor for me to rule. Elizabeth said I was a great and just ruler and everyone loved me. But since the past several months, the kingdom had been in great danger by alien invaders who were all under the command of a cruel angel, who had fallen and lost his wings. His name was Castiel and he needed to capture Moondoor to rule over the entire universe. Elizabeth said Moondoor was exactly in the centre of the universe.
“So what are we doing here? Where are we going? And how do we stop Castiel?” I asked.
“When you realized Castiel was getting closer you started conjuring a plan to take him down but there is nothing we could do to take an angel down. This is when your sources told us that there is one weapon to kill a fallen angel. This is why only the two of us left for a quest to obtain this weapon. We have been through a lot of trials and tribunals on our way and then when we stopped at Lake LaPush, we were attacked. That is when you must have been pushed through a portal.”
This all seemed very strange to me but at the same time, deep down it was making sense. Or was I just dreaming? My thoughts were interrupted as I was pushed behind a bush by Elizabeth. This brought me back to reality or... whatever this is.
“I think I hear someone,” Elizabeth started, “Anna, I know this all must be overwhelming but you have to trust me Anna, we are so close to occupying the weapon and then we can end this. I know deep down you feel the same. I know deep down you know who you are but till then fight for the right Anna, fight for me.”
I looked deep into Elizabeth’s eyes and I knew she was right. I don’t know what took over me and I nodded my head and she smiled.
We hear someone talking. There were two voices speaking to each other. I couldn’t make out what they were talking about when suddenly I felt a mind piercing headache. I collapsed on the ground. I could hear Elizabeth’s voice, but she felt far away.
I started seeing, what seemed like flashbacks from this life, my life. Whatever Elizabeth had told me started making sense. It started coming back to me, in bits and pieces first but later it got more clearer. I remembered who my father was, what happened to my mother. Soon, I started to forget what my alternate reality was and my present was as clear as crystal. My headache started disappearing, I slowly opened my eyes.
“Lady Elizabeth,”
“Princess!” she exclaimed and threw herself over me.
I hugged her back, tightly. I remember. Words couldn’t describe the joy I was feeling. We broke away from our hug.
This was the exact moment when the voices became extremely audible and we were found. Standing in front of us were Naomi and Robert. They looked angry.
“Well, well, well, Princess Anna, pleasure meeting you here” Naomi smiled wickedly.
“If it isn’t Castiel’s two pet dogs”
“We heard a rumour that you were getting closer to the weapon. We had to check it for ourselves and you know, present your heads to our Lord. Oh he’d be so pleased.”
I could see Elizabeth clenching her fists beside me. I knew what was coming but I also knew we didn’t have time. I had to acquire the weapon before it’s too late. Fighting them would be a waste of time and the destination felt awfully close. I looked at Elizabeth and she understood what I was thinking. We nodded at each other and in a split second we were both running. We started running as fast as we could. The cold air hitting our faces. We didn’t look back but I could feel Naomi and Robert chasing us. I didn’t stop. Somehow, I knew exactly where to go, which turn to take. I ran as fast as my legs could take me.
Suddenly I stopped in front of a huge shiny metal door. I almost broke the door in an attempt to get in. I breathlessly waited for Elizabeth to come in but she didn’t. I started looking around and I came to the conclusion that I was all alone. Maybe I outran Naomi and Robert or maybe Elizabeth baited them to another direction.
I started looking around me and it suddenly hit me. I audibly gasped. This must be it. This has to be the place the weapon must be stashed. The room I was standing in was huge but empty. There was a hallway leading somewhere. I looked around me one more time but I started walking down the hallway. I took small, cautious steps.
There was a door at the end of the hallway. I took a huge breath and turned the knob to open the door. The room was stark white and bright. Almost too bright. It was huge. I couldn’t see the other side of the room. It felt as if there was no end to the room. I walked in and the door slammed behind me.
I started walking in the general direction of the middle of the room, when suddenly I saw something shining. I started jogging towards it. And it became apparent to me that this is it. This is the weapon. I smiled to myself.
The weapon was in a glass display and it looked like a sword but it wasn’t really a sword, it was hard to explain. I raised my fist and broke the glass container.
“Aah Princess,” the deep voice made a shiver run down my spine, “I have been waiting for you”
And there he was, evil in its form.
“Castiel.” I breathed out.
“You know, you are supposed to say Lord before,” he smiled. “I was wondering when you’d show up or if you will at all.”
“Why would you think I wouldn’t show up? You think your pets could have killed me? I am stronger than them. Much stronger. I am stronger than you.”
He laughed menacingly.
“No Anna, I know you are stronger than my pets, as you call them but I thought you must be very busy thinking about the Winchester boys” he smirked.
“It was you! You pushed me in that portal.”
The fight was coming back to me and this caused a headache but I knew I couldn’t give him the satisfaction so I pulled through it.
“Why were you waiting for me?”
“You see, the glass you just shattered was full of angel spells and it warded the sword from all the angels. The angels couldn’t get near it, so I was waiting here patiently for you or your kind to show up. I figured someone would be dumb enough to think they have a chance against me.” he wouldn’t stop smirking, it started pissing me off. “So now that you have broken the spell, I am happily going to kill you, take the sword and then take your precious Moondoor and rule the universe.”
I was panicking but I was also trying my best to not show him that and remain strong. My mind was racing through a thousand thoughts, a thousand plans.
I started backing away from him, making him think I was giving him the edge. He smiled, taking the bait.
“So, that’s your big plan? Ruling the universe? Or should I say destroying it?” Backing away slowly, reaching the sword, slowly.
“Oh Anna, I’m not going to destroy the universe, no darling, I am going to-” he smacked his lips, “how do I put it gently? I am going to structure it to my liking.”
This exact moment I reached for the weapon. I turned my back to him and removed the sword from its cover. When suddenly a lightning bolt came out of nowhere from inside the room. This surprised Castiel. I took the advantage of this moment and ran toward him.
It was too late for him to notice and I pierced the sword through his heart and it came out the other end.
The lightning got louder and louder and two larger, burnt wings came out of Castiel’s either side. I got up and saw him there lifeless.
“Lady Elizabeth” I muttered to myself and ran out of the door, down the hallway and towards the big metal gates. I saw Lady Elizabeth running towards me. She has blood spilling out of her head and her arm.
“Princess, are you alright? Naomi and Robert turned into dust out of nowhere-”
“It's done” I interrupted her. “I destroyed Castiel”
“It’s done?” she asked in disbelief “We can go home now?”
I smiled and nodded at her. She started crying and hugging me. I hugged her back.
We took a huge breath of relief and started walking out.
*Several Months Later*
“Princess Anna and Lady Elizabeth have fearlessly destroyed Castiel. The kingdom is finally coming back to its regular state. There was a lot of chaos and fear among the people, but not anymore. Castiel, the fallen angel, has been destroyed and no evil is ever going to haunt Moondoor, as long as the mighty Princess Anna may live.” Minister Gabriel said this and the crowd went crazy and started to chant my name.
I smiled at them and raised my glass to them. An even louder cheer erupted.
“Let the feast begin!” the Minister continued and everyone started eating, drinking and laughing loudly.
Lady Elizabeth looked at me and smiled.
“So what’s next for us Princess?” she asked.
I smiled at her and sighed, “Lets found who those damn Winchesters are”
